roboticwebLumflex STL 500 is a UL-listed, four-pole control cable with a twist resistance of +/- 720° per meter. It is also flame retardant and resistant to lubricants, acids, alkalis, UV radiation, and welding sparks. Its operating temperature range is -45°C to +80°C. This control cable is available on 100 and 500 m reels with IP67-rated molded M8 and M12 connectors (straight or angled, with or without wiring). Versions with molded connectors on one end are available in lengths of 2, 5, 10, 15, and 20 m, while those with molded connectors on both ends are available in M8/M8 and M12/M12 combinations and in standard lengths of 0.3, 0.6, 1, 1.5, 2, and 5 m. By combining countless standard versions of molded connectors with various cable lengths and a wide range of field-pluggable connectors, the Robotic product program offers the ideal solution for virtually any automation application requiring secure wiring of industrial robots or electrical/electronic modules. Customized versions are also available.

The STL 500 control cable, which features a halogen-free black polyurethane (PUR) jacket, has a diameter of 5.1 mm. The four copper conductors are color-coded brown, white, blue, and black (clockwise) and have a cross-sectional area of 0.34 mm². An aramid core prevents the conductors from sticking to each other or to the jacket, ensuring optimal strain relief. The control cable can carry an operating voltage of up to 500 V.

Because the connection between the connector contacts and conductors is completely encased in insulating plastic, the molded control cables guarantee a secure connection. This eliminates problems such as sunken pins or sporadic short circuits due to vibration. Furthermore, the molded construction ensures the firmness of the connections even when the cables are subjected to deformation or compression.

The M8 and M12 plug-in connectors from the Robotic product range have a contact resistance of ≤5 mΩ. The nominal voltage is 4 A (at 40°C). Depending on the version, the control and nominal voltages range from 30 to 240 V or 0.8 to 2.5 kV (rms/60 s). The insulation resistance is >109 Ω. The compact, translucent connector housing is made of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). Other features include a self-locking screw connection, laminated spring contacts, and a combined circuit that ensures proper operation even in the event of an LED display failure.

Lumberg Automation's new Robotic product range—with potential applications ranging from automotive welding and painting processes to automated placement machines for electronic engineering, as well as material handling and packaging—underscores Belden's position as a leading provider of industrial-grade connection technology. Joachim Kiera, Product Director, says: “Thanks to state-of-the-art sensors and high-resolution imaging systems, industrial robots are increasingly becoming flexible automation tools for a vast range of applications. By offering such a high degree of functional reliability, our new product program strongly aligns with this trend.”
