The TM-Series Mobile Fronthaul solution is a leader in this emerging fronthaul market, boasting low latency, superior synchronization, low power consumption, and high density. It will enable HGC to provide mobile operators with high-capacity active mobile fronthaul services within the Hong Kong region.

HGC boasts an extensive fiber optic network in Hong Kong and offers a wide range of communications services based on a commitment to the innovative application of the latest technologies. HGC's four cross-border routes integrate three of China's Tier 3 mainland telecom operators with a world-class international network. This enables HGC to provide a comprehensive suite of fixed-line telecom services both locally and internationally, meeting the needs of international operators, data centers, enterprises, and residential broadband users.

The rapid rollout of 3G and 4G, coupled with the relentless growth of video, social media, and cloud applications accessed via smartphones and tablets, is creating a need for increased bandwidth on mobile network antennas. Mobile operators like HGC's sister company, 3 Hong Kong, are transforming their fiber-to-cell antenna networks and moving toward a centralized or cluster RAN (Radio Access Network) architecture, utilizing Infinera's innovative TM-Series Mobile Fronthaul solution. This new fronthaul architecture prepares HGC and its mobile operator customers not only for the growth of 3G and 4G but also for a seamless transition to 5G services.

Infinera's TM-Series Mobile Fronthaul solution supports all CPRI (Common Public Radio Interface) and OBSAI (Open Base Station Architecture Initiative) rates, with initial HGC services in Hong Kong ranging from 2.5 gigabits per second (Gb/s) to 10 Gb/s. Deploying the active transponder-based option of Infinera's Mobile Fronthaul solution provides high-bandwidth, low-latency mobile fronthaul services with superior synchronization performance. With these services, HGC customers can reduce their operating expenses while improving RAN performance.

“We considered the mobile fronthaul solutions on the market and concluded that the Infinera TM-Series solution best allows HGC to deliver massive bandwidth with low latency, while also being adaptable to the evolution of mobile technology,” commented Byron Chiang, Chief Technology Officer at HGC. “The Infinera team was very effective, able to quickly deliver and implement the services we required.”

"We applaud HGC's deployment of the TM-Series mobile fronthaul solution, leading what we hope will be a global adoption of this technology," said Andrew Bond-Webster, Vice President of Regional Sales for APAC. "With this deployment, HGC has transformed its mobile transport architecture and positioned itself and its customers to effectively manage the tremendous growth in mobile data that is expected to continue over the next few years.".
