The certification was activated by the Conformity Agreement Group (CAG) at the last GCF meeting using the testing tools of Keysight S8705A RF/RRM DVT & Conformance and S8704A Protocol ConformanceAs a result, it will be possible to take advantage of higher bandwidths in the millimeter wave spectrum to serve enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) applications such as high data rate intensive streaming, wireless broadcasting, gaming, as well as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

“The GCF approval of the first FR2 test cases supports a growing trend of millimeter-wave spectrum use for 5G NR deployments for high-density, short-range connectivity in metropolitan areas and private networks, such as smart industry applications,” said Kailash Narayanan, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s wireless technologies business group. “Twenty percent of the 444 5G devices announced to date use the millimeter-wave band, and more than 20 mobile operators are already deploying services on FR2.”
The compliance toolset is part of Keysight’s 5G network emulation solutions portfolioand supports all 4G and 5G frequency bands specified by 3GPP using common hardware and software platforms. This enables faster and more cost-effective validation of 5G devices on both FR1 and FR2 in a compact form factor. Keysight combines its 5G network emulation solutions with its Compact Range Antenna Camera (CATR) to deliver integrated over-the-air (OTA) measurement solutions in the millimeter wave range. With industry-leading measurement capabilities, these solutions generate accurate test results, improve reliability, and empower users to confidently and flexibly validate devices across complex network scenarios in both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) modes.
Keysight has led the way in supporting GCF-validated millimeter wave spectrum-specific test cases since July 2019, when the company achieved the industry's first GCF validation for 5G NR radio conformance testing (RCT) in FR2. Keysight's compliance solutions were also used to enable the GCF to activate 5G NR device certification, supporting FR1 in October 2019. Early access to a wide range of 5G NR test cases on common platforms accelerates and simplifies device testing.
