To enhance their users' voice call experience, mobile operators provide VoNR services by leveraging 5G core (5GC) and IP media services architectures. Manufacturers rely on 5G IP media services (IMS) conformance test cases to validate that their devices meet 3GPP specifications, ensuring the accurate delivery of multimedia services such as voice over IP (VoIP), video conferencing, and video on demand (VoD). Keysight was the first company to publish protocol test cases for verifying 5G NR devices that support IMS to 3GPP using the protocol conformance toolset.

“The deployment of new standalone 5G radio with a 5G core will deliver voice over 5G NR with reduced latency and improved sound quality,” said Muthu Kumaran, general manager of Keysight’s wireless business group. “We are pleased to support a leading number of mandatory 5G IMS test cases under both GFC and PTCRB, enabling device manufacturers to effectively accelerate the validation of 5G devices across various sizes.”

According to the GSM Association (GSMA), more than 220 mobile operators have introduced Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services, which are also based on IMS, to efficiently use the available spectrum and provide clear call quality.

The  5G protocol compliance toolkit provides access to 5G NR test cases, covering 5G NR  technology features  including IMS, Universal  Subscriber Identity Module (USAT) application suite  , LTE, and vehicle-to-everything  (C-V2X) mobile communication . As a result, device and chipset manufacturers, as well as mobile operators, can bring new products to market quickly and cost-effectively. The test cases are available across common hardware platforms that support both 5G and previous mobile technologies, ensuring seamless voice and data handoff between 4G and 5G.
