It was introduced in response to the increasing number of spoofing incidents by malicious actors, which have disrupted GNSS services. Qualinx won the project after a 6-month selection process by EUSPA.

Qualinx's Digital Radio Frequency (DRF) technology converts most of a wireless chip's analog functions into digital circuitry. These DRF functions can then be customized for each application using software. Compared to traditional GNSS receivers, this technology offers a 10x reduction in power consumption, extending the lifespan of battery-powered navigation devices, and allows for smaller, lower-cost packages.
