The Kansas City-based company will become part of the connector technology group within Smiths Interconnect.

IDI designs and produces highly engineered connectors for specific applications using proprietary contact probe technology. It focuses on mission-critical applications for semiconductor and circuit board testing, and high-reliability connectors for the military, medical, national security, and industrial markets. IDI employs 560 people, more than half of whom are based at its Suzhou, China, facility, and operates a specialized engineering center in Gilbert, Arizona.

Smiths Interconnect President Ralph Phillips said, “As a leading provider of technically differentiated components that are critical to our customers’ products and operations, IDI adds a new range of connectors to complement our existing portfolio and offer our customers a broader range of solutions spanning multiple connection technologies. With a manufacturing facility in China, IDI strengthens our connection operations and will allow us to leverage existing international sales resources, particularly in Europe, which represents a quarter of the global connector market.”

Connectors Director Roland Carter added: "This acquisition will add a world-leading probe and connector design capabilities to our engineering portfolio, as well as opening new sales channels and positioning IDI's global brands, Antares and Synergetix, alongside the strong brands and technologies of Hypertac, Hypertronics and Sabritec that already exist within Connectors."
