As part of its expansion plans, Green Mountain has embarked on the ambitious OSL2-Hamar, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art data center in Hamar, Norway. Recognized as one of the most environmentally responsible providers in the industry, Green Mountain's new OSL2-Hamar facility will be powered by 90 MW of renewable hydroelectric energy, with the potential to scale up to 150 MW to accommodate future growth. It will also be equipped to provide balancing services to support the electrical grid. The facility is expected to begin deploying its first 30 MW building in November 2023.

“The OSL2-Hamar project is a monumental challenge that requires collective effort and very strong collaborations. For this reason, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to Vertiv for their exceptional support,” said Green Mountain CEO Svein Atle Hagaseth. “Vertiv’s strong commitment and expertise have been essential to ensuring the success of this initiative, and we greatly value their support in shaping the future of environmentally friendly data centers.”.

“As we expand our operations in Norway and support Green Mountain’s remarkable growth in Northern Europe, we at Vertiv are proud to play a significant role in developing efficient and scalable infrastructure solutions and services,” added Karsten Winther, President of Vertiv in the EMEA Region. “This collaboration illustrates our commitment to delivering innovative data center technologies and exceptional customer support. Together, we are helping to shape the future of data centers while driving innovation, improving efficiency, and fostering business growth.”.

Green Mountain boasts outstanding credentials, including a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25, 100% hydroelectric power sources, Tier III certifications, and a flawless track record of uptime and 100% SLA compliance. Furthermore, the data center facilities incorporate innovative and environmentally friendly features, such as pilot projects for harnessing waste heat from fish farms, circular economy initiatives, smart lighting, and innovative cooling solutions.

As part of its latest expansion, Green Mountain has deployed Vertiv™ Liebert® EXL S1 UPS systems with Dynamic Grid Support and advanced battery storage systems, facilitating the adoption of renewable energy at its facilities and enabling grid balancing services. All Green Mountain facilities have been carefully designed and tailored to meet specific customer needs while continuously raising the bar for energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of sustainability and data privacy, and we remain committed to sharing our market expertise to help create balanced delivery models and sustainable practices,” explained Hagaseth. “Our vision includes multiple deployment locations in Norway, making this country our primary hub for new deployments. Given the anticipated increase in enterprise workloads and overall digitalization, we are determined to meet this demand with long-term capabilities.”.

Vertiv has been a key partner of Green Mountain since 2020, providing highly efficient power and thermal management solutions, even during the challenges posed by the global pandemic. “Managing deployments during COVID-19 proved extremely difficult,” Hagaseth acknowledged. “Fortunately, Vertiv stepped up and helped us overcome logistical challenges, tracking shipments and ensuring equipment delivery despite border closures. Vertiv has earned our complete trust and is now one of our key partners for data center solutions.”
