The presentation to the media, held at the Rectorate, was also attended by Salvador Naya, Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy, Research and Transfer; Luis Hervella, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, the center to which the chair is attached; and Javier Pereira, who will be its director. The strategic objectives of the new chair are collaboration in teaching at the UDC's Faculty of Computer Science, and especially in the Master's Program in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences; the development of activities that create spaces for debate and dissemination of teaching and research; and the promotion of initiatives that stimulate student talent and facilitate their entry into the workforce. Through the chair, the UDC and the Telecon Group will jointly carry out activities and projects in the areas of research, knowledge transfer, training, and outreach. The development of joint research lines is planned, as well as cooperation to achieve research projects at the Galician, Spanish, and European levels. The promotion of national and international meetings and networks of experts; collaboration on master's programs and other postgraduate studies; the design and delivery of continuing education programs; the sponsorship of predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships; and training for the creation of technology-based companies or for the exploitation of research results, among other initiatives. Grupo Telecon will provide the necessary funding for the chair's operation. Julio Abalde placed this initiative within the framework of specialization of the A Coruña campuses, specifically within the Innova Campus, which is the University of A Coruña's commitment to the digital sector. "This chair represents a firm commitment to specialization in the digital world, especially as applied to Health Sciences, a sector that will experience significant growth in the future," stated the rector. According to Jacobo Penide, this initiative by Grupo Telecon represents a significant step forward in its commitment to Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience for the development of solutions that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, while also promoting the early diagnosis of cognitive decline. This vision has been commercially realized through the creation of the Handytronic brand, a company that markets a wide range of mobility solutions for people with disabilities, while also supporting research projects in this field that already include the participation of the Faculty of Computer Science and the Master's Program in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences at the University of A Coruña (UDC).
