The contracts won by Indra include the implementation of a regional backup data center (DPC) and a laboratory management system. The DPC, which the IT company will supply, will be located in an alternative site to the existing central DPC in order to enhance the security of all information systems in the Principality of Asturias, regardless of their specific area. Indra will also manage and administer the backup DPC and install all the necessary infrastructure for its operation (hardware, software, and communication lines).
Furthermore, the IT company will implement a new information system for the comprehensive management of all laboratory processes at the new center, from the pre-analytical phases across all areas (Hematology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Oncology, Cytogenetics, Emergency Medicine, and Toxicology). The system will also be integrated with external reference laboratories as well as with the other applications of the Primary Care Information and Management System. This means that all analytical tests performed on patients, both in external laboratories and in the hospital's own labs, will be automatically included in their medical records and will be available to professionals at the hospital and primary care centers in their area.
The new Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) is the most important healthcare project undertaken by the Asturian government and is scheduled to become operational in 2011. It will have 5,500 professionals, of whom approximately 900 will be physicians and some 3,000 nurses and nursing assistants, to staff more than 1,200 inpatient beds, 200 outpatient clinics, and 36 operating rooms.
Currently, more than 32 million people in over 10 countries benefit from the healthcare solutions and systems developed by Indra. Their solutions are currently used by more than 100,000 professionals in over 5,600 health centers and hospitals, enabling the scheduling of approximately 500,000 appointments daily.
The technologies and expertise applied by Indra to healthcare are based on their Healthcare Solutions portfolio, specializing in areas such as telemedicine, digital imaging, electronic prescriptions, and electronic health records, among others. This platform is the result of accumulated experience developing projects for both private and public entities nationally and internationally, providing an opportunity thanks to their expertise in system interoperability among different stakeholders in the healthcare sector.
In the area of electronic health records, the Diraya system stands out. This innovative IT system, developed for the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), has facilitated the implementation of digital health records in Andalusia. IANUS, the healthcare platform and Abucasis, which has facilitated the unification of all outpatient information in the medical records of the Valencian Community,
is also a key initiative of Indra in Spain. In addition to the current electronic prescription project in Asturias, Indra has successfully implemented it in Aragon, Cantabria, Madrid, Murcia, Valencia, Galicia, the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and Andalusia. Furthermore, the IT company is a technology partner of SESCAM (the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service) in the development of the YKONOS project, the digital medical imaging system for Castilla-La Mancha.
