Service providers that already have large traffic volumes or those expecting significant growth have deployed Infinera's networks because of the scalability of Infinera's digital optical network architecture.
The 450 km route between Paris and Lyon is one of the busiest in Europe, situated at the crossroads of routes between northern and southern Europe and between western and eastern Europe, between traffic from Africa and the Middle East, and traffic from North America arriving in Europe via ports on the English Channel coast. Pan-European provider Interoute and French operator Covage are among the service providers using Infinera's networks to offer services on this route.
Infinera's networking solutions are specifically designed to carry traffic from hundreds of gigabits to terabits, thanks to the scalability of Infinera's DTN system. Infinera's integrated photonic circuits (PICs) combine more than 60 optical components onto a single pair of chips, enabling 100Gb/s of pre-provisioning capacity on each card line today. PICs with 500Gb/s pre-provisioning capacity are planned for the next generation of Infinera systems, which will be available next year. The 100Gb/s PICs have demonstrated exceptional reliability in live networks, with over six years of field operations without a single PIC failure. Furthermore, Infinera's Just-in-TAM™ guarantee ensures customers receive new service modules within ten days, while Infinera's management suite enables the discovery of new revenue opportunities with just one click.
According to data from major European internet exchanges, internet traffic in Europe continues to grow at double-digit rates, due to increasing investments in network capacity by emerging nations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and the increasingly widespread use of network devices, mobile and fixed telephony and the growth of applications such as cloud computing and video.
Supporting pan-European and French customers
Pan-European operator Interoute has built a large and growing business by meeting its customers' network capacity needs across Europe using the speed and simplicity of the Infinera network. Interoute operates in 29 countries and connects a 60,000 km fiber network. “Our Infinera network is fundamental in helping us deliver services to our customers when and where they need them, very quickly and reliably. The Paris-Lyon route is one of many where we offer ample capacity and are positioned to respond to customer requests very quickly,” said Matthew Finnie, CTO of Interoute.
Infinera's networks also support domestic service providers in France. French operator Covage has built a long-distance network serving 15 major French cities using an Infinera network. Covage provides services to service providers and businesses, with key competitive advantages including the ability to deploy services quickly and a low-price model that offers customers easy-to-understand pricing and the same price for a connection whether it's 10 km or 1,000 km. Covage also uses this Infinera network to support its 15 local broadband networks that are bringing its services to regions across France. “Our Infinera network has helped us launch a successful business in France, carrying large volumes of corporate and internet traffic, and has also helped us deliver broadband services to customers,” said Vincent Couarraze, Network Director at Covage.
Infinera's next generation of systems is expected to raise the bar even higher, offering advanced features and functionalities, as well as a capacity of over 25 Terabits per second. Infinera's broadband virtualization architecture enables the flexible deployment of PIC-based networks to transport any service between any two points on the network without the typical limitations of optical ROADMs.
“Customers trust Infinera when they have high traffic levels on busy routes because Infinera’s solution is exceptionally scalable and reliable, thanks to the innovation of large-scale PIC technology,” said Dave Welch, Infinera Executive Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer. “We intend to further enhance these benefits as we launch our products over the next twelve months.”.
