According to the 2014 SDN and NFV Strategies: Global Service Providers survey conducted by Infonetics Research, 93% of telecom operators surveyed plan to implement NFV as they work to modernize how telecom networks are built and operated. While OpenStack is establishing itself as the platform of choice for NFV workloads, Red Hat and Huawei are partnering globally to jointly design cloud solutions for operators and CSPs.
As part of this initiative, Huawei and Red Hat expect to combine Huawei's dominant global market position and extensive experience with telecom companies with Red Hat's expertise as a leader in OpenStack and enterprise open source to help CSPs adopt cloud computing with an OpenStack solution for operators. Huawei and Red Hat plan to integrate the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack platform and Huawei's FusionSphere Cloud OS at the management layer to deliver a unified, open, flexible, and production-ready solution to support telecom operators' NFV evolution. Working together, Huawei and Red Hat plan to align development, engineering, product, and go-to-market efforts to drive CSP adoption of OpenStack for NFV deployments.
Huawei and Red Hat will work together to enable NFV features for the OpenStack community, which are required by cloud CSP deployments and serve as the foundation for highly scalable Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions. By contributing the results of their partnership to community development, Red Hat and Huawei are enabling the OpenStack community to benefit from their collaboration, unlike approaches that favor proprietary plugins and vendor lock-in.
Huawei and Red Hat also plan to work together to jointly certify the solutions, giving CSPs complete confidence that the solutions will provide consistent and competent performance.
