Both technological innovation projects focused on improving energy efficiency in the data center through the design and optimization of innovative power supply and cooling technologies.
The first aspect or line of action aimed to reduce the energy consumption of the cooling system. To achieve this, Interxion implemented an indirect free cooling system with self-regulating valves that allows for the use of outside air for a greater number of hours per year. In this way, the chillers reduce the water temperature naturally, minimizing the use of the compressors, which are the most energy-intensive component of the cooling system.
This innovation has made it possible to operate for almost half the year using external cold air, saving more than 1,400 hours of operation of the refrigeration system.
The second project aimed to improve the performance of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. In this case, based on DELTA conversion technology, a UPS model was used that improves power distribution and regulates battery charging, thereby reducing energy loss and lowering electrical costs by 90%.
In the process to obtain this certification, SGS has been the auditor in charge of certifying that all the requirements for obtaining this seal have been met.
“This certification confirms Interxion’s commitment to the pursuit of energy efficiency, and adds to other achievements such as providing energy from renewable sources for its customers, as well as an environmental management system with ISO 14001 certification,” says Robert Assink, Managing Director of Interxion Spain.
