The new system provides real-time branch circuit monitoring at the terminal panel, floor power distribution unit, remote power panel, or suspended busway duct.
To monitor the rising power consumption of IT equipment racks, the new BCM system utilizes Raritan's third-generation rack PDU technology. Visibility across the entire power chain is vital for managing the health of a data center. For example, if a circuit's current approaches a breaker's limit, the BCM alerts personnel, who can then take action to prevent a cascading failure. The BCM is also modular, meaning it can be scaled as and when needed, making it more cost-effective than competing solutions.
For data centers in housing, the BCM provides visibility into how much energy their customers' equipment is using and helps enforce service level agreements (SLAs). It measures kWh with ISO/SEC billing-grade accuracy of +/- 0.5%. It also collects data in amperage (A), voltage (V), kW, kVA, and power factor. The data is accessible remotely via a web-based interface or locally using a tablet or high-resolution color display.
The system can be easily configured by loading the panel software via USB, eliminating manual data entry errors. The information collected by the BCM can be shared with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) energy control software or a building management system (BMS), such as that offered by Raritan's partner, Sunbird Software. The BCM is also compatible with environmental sensors for monitoring temperature and humidity.
The new, easy-to-install modular system consists of power meter controllers (PMCs), power metering modules (PMMs), current transformers (CTs), and a variety of enclosures. During installation, the system automatically detects the CT installation direction and adjusts its orientation to prevent costly errors that would require reinstallation. There is no interruption to existing services, as the current transformers can be routed around live circuits without affecting power to the equipment racks.
