Both product lines are built with TMC's latest enterprise-class 64-layer, 3-bit-per-cell BiCS FLASH TLC (triple-level cell) technology, enabling today's demanding storage environments to expand their flash usage with cost-optimized 3D flash memory. With new and advanced features, the innovative PM5 and CM5 series increase performance capacity and create new opportunities for businesses to harness the power of flash storage.
Offering up to 30.72 TB in a 2.5-inch form factor, TMC's PM5 series introduces a full range of high-capacity, endurance SAS SSDs that enable data centers to efficiently address massive data demands while streamlining storage deployments. Featuring the industry's first MultiLink SAS architecture, the PM5 series delivers the fastest performance the market has seen from a SAS-based SSD, with up to 3,350 MB/s sequential read and 2,720 MB/s sequential write speeds in MultiLink mode, and up to 400,000 IOPS random read in either narrow or MultiLink mode. The PM5 series' 4-port MultiLink design is an additional technology for achieving high performance, approaching that of PCI Express (PCIe) SSDs, allowing legacy infrastructures to increase productivity without requiring a complete overhaul. In addition, PM5 SSDs support multi-stream write technology, a feature that intelligently manages and groups data types to minimize write amplification and garbage collection, resulting in reduced latency, improved endurance, increased performance, and quality of service.

As TMC's next-generation NVMe SSD, the dual-port PCIe Gen3 x4 CM5 is a complete SSD for enterprise applications. Like the PM5, it also supports multi-stream write technology. It's NVMe on Fabric-ready with SGL (Scatter-Gather List) and CMB (Controller Memory Buffer) features. The CMB function utilizes a portion of the SSD's DRAM as host system memory, reducing the host's RAM load and enabling high-speed system performance. Utilizing TMC's 64-layer BiCS FLASH technology, the CM5 series delivers excellent performance with up to 800,000 random reads and 240,000 random writes IOPS for the 5 model DWPD (Drive Writes Per Day), and up to 220,000 random write IOPS for the 3 model DWPD, both with a maximum power consumption of 18W. Furthermore, the CM5 is being used as a platform to showcase and enable the ecosystem around Persistent Memory Region (PMR) capabilities. PMR allows customers to augment system memory with DRAM on the SSD without the use of costly non-volatile DIMMs (NV-DIMMs). This feature makes it possible for a single SSD solution to provide both high-performance storage and persistent memory to meet system performance requirements, while significantly reducing costs by moving metadata operations, such as logging, journaling, and application staging, to the SSD.
"Toshiba is proud to introduce its new enterprise flash innovation along with the expansion of our enterprise SSD portfolio with the CM5 and PM5 series using 3D TLC FLASH. The new devices meet customer demands for higher storage capacities and applications with the latest flash memory technology," said Paul Rowan, General Manager of Toshiba Electronics Europe, SSD Business Unit.
The PM5 12Gb/s SAS SSDs will be available in capacities ranging from 400GB to 30.72TB with SIE (Sanitize Instant Erase) and TCG (Trusted Computing Group) certifications. The CM5 NVMe SSDs will offer capacities ranging from 800GB to 15.36TB with SIE and TCG certifications. Both TLC-based product lines offer industry-standard endurance ratings with 1, 3, and 5 DWPD options, and the PM5 also has a 10 DWPD option available.
