This boom is also being seen in Spain. According to CNMC data for May of this year, there were already 4.5 million M2M lines in Spain, 13.4% more than in the same period of the previous year. “The figures are spectacular month after month, and that is why Matooma has decided to focus on Spain as one of its priority markets,” says Frédéric Salles, CEO of Matooma.

So much so that, according to a survey by the consulting firm IDC, 38% of the Spanish organizations interviewed plan to implement M2M services this year, while 19% have already implemented them, achieving improvements in productivity, performance, and cost savings. In this regard, the aforementioned Cisco VNI report estimates that, in 2021, there will be 345 million connected devices in Spain (7 connected devices per inhabitant), up from 196 million in 2016 (4 connected devices per capita). The fastest-growing areas for M2M services in Spain are building security, land transport, healthcare, smart cities, industry, and telemetry.

Matooma is currently working in all key IoT sectors. “Sectors such as security and telemetry, for example, are well-suited to a multi-operator M2M model like the one we offer,” explains Frédéric Salles. In this regard, Matooma's M2M SIM cards, integrated into a device, scan the network and identify the best available connection in the area.

While coverage is a key issue for any regular smartphone user, for the B2B sector, device connectivity is a critical and fundamental aspect for any business.
