Using the icom communication module, data on the status and any alerts can be directly integrated into the factory's maintenance department system and received via computer, tablet, or mobile phone. Currently, "smart plastics" are already predicting the lifespan of numerous applications for our customers, for example, in the automotive industry. Furthermore, they are under continuous development in collaboration with our customers.

Individual integration of "smart plastics":
The isense modules use sensors to collect data from cable carriers, motion cables, linear guides, or turntables. They are equipped with an interface that is easily integrated into the control cabinet, and a data logger allows the values ​​to be saved to an SD card. The data obtained from the various isense systems is wirelessly transmitted to the icom module, where it is synthesized and processed. Furthermore, the customer can choose differentsmart-plastics-2-w methods for integrating them into their infrastructure. The icom can transmit and integrate the sensor data to a computer using existing software or via an intranet, and it is also possible to connect to the igus data center. In this case, maintenance recommendations based on machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms are continuously compared and refined using experience gained from multiple applications and in the igus laboratory, the largest in the industry at 2,750 square meters. Richard Habering, head of smart plastics at igus, says: “The wealth of results obtained from our laboratory tests are incorporated into the online service life calculators, allowing us to accurately predict the service life of a cable carrier in a specific application.” He adds: “The isense components provide our customers with added reliability through continuous updates on the service life of their products. This is because the sensors also incorporate the specific environmental conditions of each application. As a result, maintenance and replacement are only carried out when truly necessary, saving time and maintenance costs.”
