The CP 1242-7 communications processor expands the S7-1200 controllers with a GSM/GPRS interface. For plant operators, this opens up the possibility of cost-effectively diagnosing, maintaining, monitoring, and controlling stations distributed worldwide via GPRS. To use the CP 1242-7 module, only a mobile phone contract with a SIM card or a special M2M contract is required. During daily operation, the system uses SMS to inform personnel about the plant's status or any faults that may occur. Furthermore, the CP 1242-7 allows remote access via the internet. This is done from a PC with internet connectivity and Step 7 V11 software installed. Another application is M2M communication, which enables direct intercommunication and coordination between geographically separated plants.
The Telecontrol Server Basic software for remote monitoring and control systems acts as an OPC server for Simatic S7-200 and Simatic S7-1200 controllers connected via mobile telephony. This allows data from up to 5000 stations to be centralized and delivered via an OPC interface to HMI or SCADA systems.
A systems integrator can use the OPC server for multiple clients.
