Users gain wireless access to critical process data, such as level, flow rate, fill level, temperature, and pressure, from remote measuring points. The terminal operates autonomously using batteries or a solar panel, making it highly versatile and suitable for various applications, including water and wastewater treatment, agriculture, and asset monitoring. It can be used for leak detection, monitoring pumping stations or water reservoirs, measuring fill levels in tanks or silos, or in agricultural irrigation systems. Its robust design allows for use in extreme environmental conditions (between -40°C and +70°C). An additional housing with an IP68 protection rating ensures reliable operation even in the event of flooding.

Remote terminals are frequently installed in widely distributed areas, typically at measurement points that lack their own communication or power infrastructure. It is in this context that the RTU3030C autonomous remote terminal truly shines. It collects measurement data sent by connected sensors and transmits it to a control center. The terminal can operate on up to two high-capacity industrial batteries or a rechargeable battery (which can be combined with a solar panel). Users also have the option of connecting a 12-24 V DC power supply, if available. The various power options can be combined as needed.

The RTU3030C operates in hibernation, measurement update, communication, and service modes. It consumes less than 2 milliwatts (mW) in hibernation mode, ensuring reliable operation for several years without maintenance. Measured values are transmitted to the control center via an integrated UMTS/GPRS modem over a wireless network (mobile network infrastructure), along with a secure OpenVPN connection or encrypted emails. Communication can be event- or time-based and individually configured for each process value. The SIMATIC RTU3030C immediately reports any value exceeding defined threshold levels via SMS or email (even in hibernation mode) to expedite the service response. Users can switch the RTU3030C to 'service' mode to perform maintenance operations, such as battery replacement, without data loss.

The SIMATIC RTU3030C terminal can be easily configured and its firmware updated via a standard web browser. It can also be linked to the Simatic PCS 7 or Simatic WinCC control system using the TeleControl Server Basic software package. It can connect directly to Simatic PCS 7 TeleControl or Simatic WinCC/TeleControl using the IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 telecontrol protocols. Compatibility with a wide range of telecontrol protocols provides a flexible connection method for any optional SCADA system.
