EBV Elektronik, an Avnet company, and WEPTECH elektronik have worked closely with STMicroelectronics to develop a flexible Sub-GHz RF module that streamlines the certification of M-BUS and OMS wireless measurement systems.The module, called MAIA within the EBVchips program, addresses different measurement applications, including automatic meter reading (AMR), advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), gas and water meters, electricity meters, as well as heat meters or readers and concentrators.
The RF module, which will be launched in a compact form factor (15 mm x 14 mm) allowing for SMT mounting, features an ultra-low-power STM32L0 microcontroller, a low-power SPIRIT1 sub-GHz transceiver, and a BALF-SPI-01D3 balun. In addition, the module incorporates the M-Bus wireless layer and OMS compliant with OMS 3.X and OMS 4.X specifications, and supports the connection of an external antenna. The module will be pre-certified and CE compliant.
"The module provides easy and quick integration of an OMS interface into meter gateways or smart meters, which enables - in fact, improves - time to market with the OMS interface," said Wolfgang Esch, WEPTECH elektronik and board member of the OMS group.
