To address the need for faster communication speeds between servers and network devices, the next-generation 200GbE/400GbE Ethernet standard relies not only on faster symbol rates and multiple channels but also on Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) to increase transmission speed. As the next generation of PAM4 communication standards is developed, a signal integrity testing solution with high-amplitude 32 Gbaud PAM4 BER generation and high-quality, high-precision BER measurement will play a crucial role.
The MP1800A signal quality analyzer is a modular, pluggable BERT (Bit Error Rate Tester) that supports the measurement of multi-channel broadband interfaces up to 64 Gbit/s. The new G0375A and G0376A are remote heads for adding to the MP1800A 32G PPG/ED series to expand measurement support for PAM4 measurements using NRZ measuring instruments.
The combination of the G0375A with the MU183020A 28G/32Gbit/s PPG converts two 32 Gbit/s NRZ signals to output a high-amplitude 4.4 Vp-p (differential, max.) PAM4 signal. Furthermore, the 3-channel PPG synchronization function for independent control of the 3-Eye PAM4 signal amplitudes enables high-reproducibility evaluation of optical modulators without the need for an external driver amplifier.
With built-in PAM4 and CTLE decoding functions, the G0376A supports the measurement of PAM4 decoded binary signals using the high-sensitivity MU183040B 28G/32Gbit/s. Furthermore, the combination with the CTLE function supports high-efficiency and high-sensitivity input performance testing.
