By connecting the new MA2806A to Anritsu's MS2830A signal analyzer, it supports spectrum measurements in the 50 GHz to 75 GHz (V-band) band currently used by various millimeter wave sensors, WiGig Gigabit Wireless LAN (802.11ad), and streaming camera video transmission equipment.
The adoption of millimeter wave frequencies is increasing the need for new instruments to support accurate and highly sensitive measurements of higher-bandwidth signals. Higher bandwidths are not only being used for high-definition video transmission at sporting events and in broadcast studios, and for WLAN applications using WiGig (802.11ad), but are also seeing increasing use in vehicle sensor applications and human detection.
Evaluating the spectrum of ultra-wideband millimeter-wave signals requires solutions for easily and accurately measuring transmission characteristics. Conventional harmonic mixers used for this task suffer from overall conversion loss, as well as image responses, where a non-existent phantom signal is displayed. The high-performance MA2806A waveguide mixer solves these problems by supporting accurate and highly sensitive measurements of wireless communication infrastructure and equipment using broadband millimeter-wave signals.
Key features of the MA2806A include superior P1dB performance of less than 0 dB, as well as a minimum sensitivity performance of 150 dBm/Hz, meaning it can measure extremely weak signals not found in conventional measurement systems. Combining the MA2806A with the MS2830A, designed for high IF at 1.875 GHz, enables spectrum mask measurements of 1 GHz bandwidth signals without image response effects. The MA2806A also comes with conversion loss correction data for all frequencies, allowing for a simplified measurement procedure.
