The LARA-R3 series is a single-mode LTE Cat 1 module based on the UBX R3 platform with LTE modem technology. It complements the existing portfolio of multimode LTE Cat 1 products, which includes the LARA-R2 and TOBY-R2 module series. Meeting customer demands, the LARA-R3 also provides positioning information based on an integrated GNSS receiver. The single-mode LTE Cat 1 configuration addresses the growing market demand for dedicated LTE products. It completes u-blox's unique portfolio of products and technologies specifically designed for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Designed and engineered for reliable communication in harsh environments, the new LARA R3 series for professional use incorporates features that set it apart from the competition, including a robust system design, long-term availability, and complete component traceability. The modern, software-defined UBX-R3 modem platform architecture offers IoT-specific features such as power minimization, signaling optimization, and load and performance control, all compatible with the latest standards. System complexity has been optimized for exclusive LTE support, and the device can be customized to meet specific customer requirements.

The new platform supports end-to-end security features (secure firmware boot, secure transport layer, secure interfaces, secure APIs) that are seamlessly integrated into the LARA R3 module. And as with all u-blox products, customers can rely on highly competent support.

“The UBX R3 platform and the LARA R3 product series demonstrate u-blox’s long-term strategy to deliver best-in-class LTE modem technology for IoT and M2M communication,” says Thomas Seiler, CEO of u-blox. “It is the result of integrating at u-blox the expert knowledge gained from our technology and talent acquisitions and the collaboration of a highly skilled and experienced team of cellular R&D engineers across six different locations.”.

This new series of modems and products reinforces u-blox's goal of supplying the best connectivity technology for the IoT, and gives the company full control over its own product roadmap, features, quality, and costs.
