The R&S SFU can now be used to develop and perform measurements on HDTV and mobile TV receivers for the ATSC Mobile DTV and DVB-T2 standards, including modules and components. Additionally, measurement laboratories can use the R&S SFU broadcast measurement system as a reference signal source for conformance measurements and certification of user equipment. The R&S SFU offers all the functions required for these applications in a single instrument.
Existing ATSC networks can be expanded using ATSC Mobile DTV, the new American digital standard for mobile TV. Operating in full compliance with this standard, the R&S SFU-K18 real-time encoder option generates signals with real-time video and audio content. Encoding parameters are user-selectable. The R&S SFU's integrated transport frame generator can be used as a source of multiplex content for transmission, significantly simplifying measurement setup. An external generator can also be connected.
Equipped with the R&S SFU-K16 real-time encoder, the broadcast measurement system can also generate signals for DVB-T2, the new European standard for digital terrestrial television (DTT). The R&S SFU supports all code rates, bandwidths, and constellations of this standard, especially the new rotated constellations. The encoder captures video, audio, and other additional data as MPEG-2 transport frames. Signals can also be generated by an external generator or an integrated transport frame generator. The DVB-T2 option allows for single-service modulation (single PLP).
In addition to the R&S SFU's added functions, the new real-time encoding options can simulate noise, multipath propagation, and power interference on adjacent channels. In short, the R&S SFU offers users all the functions they need for development and measurement on ATSC Mobile DTV and DVB-T2 receivers in a single instrument.
