Unlike competing products, made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and TPE (thermoplastic elastomers), Molex offers an extruded FEP (fluorinated ethylene-propylene)-based dielectric insulation material for a high-performance ribbon cable, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, abrasion, bending, and chemical exposure.
Temp-Flex FEP plan ribbon cables operate reliably in temperatures ranging from -65°C to 200°C and are resistant to acids, alcohols, aldehydes, bases, esters, hydrocarbons (aliphatic, aromatic, and halogenated), ketones, and oxidizing agents. An extruded cable encapsulates each conductor with non-delamining insulation, and the low-loss dielectric constant (2.1) ensures optimal signal transmission with minimal loss. Mass termination of the cables is achieved using conventional technology based on insulator displacement terminals/connectors (IDT/IDC) to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Molex also offers commercial and standard cables with conductors in multiple sizes (16 AWG to 32 AWG), materials (uninsulated copper, silver-clad copper, and high-strength alloy), and pitches. In this way, users can customize their solution more easily, considering specific requirements such as current, voltage, space availability, tensile and flexural strength, as well as flexibility.
