In SWIM, the connector plug screws into the receptacle to join the two parts, and two O-rings on the connection interface ensure a watertight seal even under low pressure. The molded cable with the plug further contributes to the watertight protection. SWIM is made of thermoplastic material and is resistant to seawater and temperature variations from -20°C to +70°C for extended periods. The screw-on coupling and coded contacts facilitate a simple, even blind, connection of the plug to the receptacle, even when there are a large number of contacts.
Twelve different contact configurations are available in two housing sizes, with hybrid signal and power versions. The four contact sizes, from 20 to 12, are complemented by two types of coaxial contacts, ranging from 250 to 75 ohms.
