OmronXF3Mwe connectorOmron's new XF3M FPC/FFC connector is ideal for connecting LCD displays to printed circuit boards and other board-to-board connections in applications such as industrial equipment, household appliances, printers, LCD televisions, and mobile devices. Omron also anticipates strong interest from applications incorporating color LCD displays, as well as communication/security systems, GPS systems, measuring equipment, medical instrumentation, and healthcare devices.

The key feature of the XF3M is its new rotary anti-backlash mechanism, which simplifies cable insertion, provides confirmation of correct installation, and ensures a secure cable retention. The mechanism uses a rotary locking mechanism to secure the FPC/FFC cable, which is mounted independently of the FPC/FFC socket. A click when the locking mechanism is engaged confirms that the closure is fully engaged. This mechanism allows for the construction of a socket with a four-sided housing that securely holds the FPC/FFC cable for enhanced assembly reliability. With conventional twist-lock connectors, the locking mechanism is located on the FPC/FFC socket, meaning that lifting the cable or applying excessive force could cause the system to unlock. Omron's innovative design of the new XF3M solves these problems.

The connector is 2 mm high and 6.4 mm deep (locked). The XF3M features a dual-contact structure that allows cable insertion in any orientation. To simplify assembly, the connector can accept angled cable insertion and then securely lock the cable in place. It accepts FPC or FFC cable up to 0.3 mm thick, is available in 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm pitches, and conforms to widely accepted PCB mounting dimensions. The molded parts utilize LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) resins. Its halogen-free construction makes the XF3M environmentally friendly.
