The Flexor 5973 features a multi-pin VITA 57.1 FMC, a Samtec SEARAY™ Open Pin Field connector array, 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, a PCI Express® (Gen 1, 2, and 3) interface up to x8, optional user-configurable gigabit serial I/O connections, and optional LVDS connections to the FPGA for customizable I/O.
The Flexor 5973 delivers new levels of I/O performance by incorporating the emerging VITA 66.4 standard for medium-sized optical (MT) interconnects, providing 12 duplex optical lanes to the backplane. With the implementation of a serial protocol, the VITA-66.4 interface enables gigabit backplane communication between PCIe®-independent backplanes. Pentek has chosen the FireFly™ Micro Flyover System to meet the VITA-66.4 specification.
Samtec FireFly™ is the first interconnect system to offer designers the choice of using either low-cost copper cables or high-performance active optical engines to meet today's and next-generation data rate needs. The system used in the Flexor 5973 features a FireFly™ Tx module and a 12-channel FireFly™ Rx module bonded together in a single MT Ferrule, with each channel operating at up to 14 Gbps for a total system data rate of 336 Gbps.
