Light-emitting diodes can be placed on a busbar in the center of the LED TV screen or, as in some of the most modern models, at the edge of the panel to avoid shadows. Positioning them at the edge makes it more difficult to save space to achieve a thinner screen. IllumiMate offers the narrowest width of all similar low-power connection systems on the market, along with significant cost and performance advantages.
“Similar products available on the market have had problems with disengagement,” explains Steve Kim, global microproducts manager for Molex, adding, “A robust dual positive locking mechanism in the Molex IllumiMate connector provides a firm interlock and a window to confirm complete insertion. The techniques used to manufacture the IllumiMate connector also allow for a significant reduction in costs.”.
IllumiMate connectors feature a robust, double-locking design, including windows for visual confirmation of closure and an easy-to-use locking mechanism to ensure a secure connection. Other key features of the Molex IllumiMate family include a dual-contact terminal design for stable electrical contact, wide solder terminals for secure PCB mounting, and polarizing elements between the header circuits to facilitate mating and protect the contacts. Furthermore, IllumiMate connectors are halogen-free and comply with international environmental regulations.
Initially, the IllumiMate family is available as a four-circuit connection system, with additional circuit versions planned for the coming months.
