The UTL is compliant with the latest Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards applicable to luminaires (UL 1598, IEC 60598), telecommunications repeaters, and portable power tools. It is designed to withstand harsh climates, resists all weather conditions, and is especially resistant to ultraviolet radiation thanks to a new molded polyamide.
The Souriau UTL is a high-disconnection-capacity connector with a design that makes accessing the functional components extremely difficult. Its locking mechanism prevents tampering by unauthorized individuals. It cannot be disconnected without special tools, which optimizes its safety when used in public places.
The UTL, which closes using a patented locking system, incorporates IP68/69K ingress protection. This means it remains watertight even when the cable is moved or cleaned under high pressure. The wires in the male connector are molded within the connector, allowing for direct or 90° configuration without compromising connection quality or watertightness. Even if the cable jacket ruptures, liquid cannot enter because the wires are encapsulated within the mold. Contacts with special sealing are also available. Thanks to its IPX8 rating, the UTL can be submerged for one week at a depth of 10 meters when connected, while the version with watertight contacts can be submerged for one week at a depth of 1 meter when disconnected.
In testing, the UTL series connectors have exceeded 500 mating cycles and withstood vibrations, as specified in IEC 60512-4, between 10 and 2000 Hz. They can be used at temperatures from -40 °C to +105 °C, meet smoke and fire control standards, and withstand salt spray for over 1,000 hours. They are available with a square, in-line, or threaded receptacle.
The 4-pin version is already available, while the 6- and 8-pin versions will be available within a few months.
