The Quadrax Ethernet solution can be installed on new or refurbished rolling stock. It uses copper cable to transmit data according to MVB, WTB, and Ethernet protocols at speeds of up to 1 gigabyte per second. Railway connectors with Quadrax contacts have been adapted to railway cables with specific cross-sections and diameters. Souriau's current railway range includes five connectors with Quadrax contacts: one format with a single Quadrax for the VGE1 series, one format with a single Quadrax for the FER1 series, and three formats for the 838 series: two Quadrax, four Quadrax, and four Quadrax plus eight signal contacts.
These connectors have already been installed on new Alstom rolling stock and in SNCF's upgrade programs. This success is the result of Souriau's long-term commitment to the railway market. The excellent performance of the new Quadrax connectors for railways is demonstrated by the first two contracts secured. Alstom has selected Souriau to supply the inter-car signal connectors for the MI09 program. The 60 trains will run on the Paris suburban lines (RER A), replacing the existing fleet. In addition, SNCF has awarded Souriau a contract to supply 838 series connectors and wiring harnesses with four Quadrax contacts and eight signal contacts for the Z2N upgrade program. The Quadrax connectors are installed between cars to allow passenger information displays to be installed at the front and rear of the train.
VGE1 and FER 1 connectors with a single Quadrax contact have already been installed on the Paris Metro's MP05 trains.
The Quadrax connectors in the VGE1, FER 1, and 838 series have been qualified according to the NF F 61-030 standard. The composite materials used meet Class II fire and smoke requirements, according to the NF F 16-101 and 16-102 standards, and the Quadrax contacts have been classified as Category 6, according to the IEC 11801 Ethernet standard.
The development of connectors with Quadrax contacts for high-speed trains continues Souriau's standardization policy: a single Quadrax contact design for all product ranges. Standardization is one of the strengths of Souriau's connector ranges. The most significant example is the use of a single AWG 16 contact, derived from the TRIM TRIO industrial range, for all railway ranges. A platform of seven specialized ranges with nearly one hundred formats is available.
