It connects to the bus by plugging it into the Profibus device. The included 3m Ethernet cable plugs into the RJ45 connector.
The PG connector integrated into the housing allows other devices to be connected to the bus.
Power is drawn from the CPU. The supplied driver is automatically integrated into S7 engineering tools after installation. Even the RFC1006 protocol can be used simply by configuring it via the web interface, allowing communication with many common software products without the need for additional software, such as OPC servers, HMI devices, and others.
Its potential applications include: communication with SCADA, data logging and acquisition, programming and configuration via Ethernet, teleservice via the Internet or telephone line, and CPU-to-CPU communication
Features: dynamic address assignment via DHCP, security functions for TCP/IP access protection, PLC write protection, up to 16 TCP connections and 32 MPI/PROFIBUS connections, and easy configuration via Web.
