It has been determined that device interfaces and system cables need to be smaller, more powerful, and more robust. Therefore, HARTING has worked with Hirose to develop this new technology, offering the robust ix Industrial miniature Ethernet interface, which could replace the conventional RJ45 connection.
The unit occupies 70% less space than an RJ45 connection and is significantly more secure because the two metal snap-on clips ensure a more secure connection between the housing and connector. Data transmission is reliable, even in EMC-critical applications, thanks to the continuous 360° shield design, which guarantees high immunity to interference.
The housing, which features five THR (threaded weld) shield contacts, provides robustness. These permanently and securely attach the connector to a PCB to prevent damage to the conductor rails caused by the stress exerted by high forces on the housings. Other features include a robust cable attachment, high resistance to shock and vibration, and the ability to handle 5,000 mating cycles. It is also designed to provide Cat 6A performance for 1/10-Gbit/s Ethernet and complies with IEC/PAS 61076-3-124.
