The six pillars of the new Cisco IoT System are as follows: • Network connectivity: This pillar includes specific routing, switching and wireless connectivity solutions available in standard or hardened format (for industrial environments).
• Fog Computing: Fog is a distributed computing infrastructure for the Internet of Things that extends processing power and analytical applications to the network edge, enabling organizations to analyze and manage data locally and thus obtain relevant information from their connections. Cisco anticipates that by 2018, 40 percent of all IoT-generated data will be processed at the network edge. More than 25 Cisco networking products are Fog Computing-ready or include edge data processing capabilities through the Cisco IOx platform.
• Security: The Cisco IoT System's security pillar combines physical and cybersecurity to provide complete visibility across all physical and digital assets, strengthening protection and operational efficiency. Cisco's range of IP video surveillance solutions, TrustSec-enabled networking products, and cloud/cybersecurity solutions enable organizations to monitor, detect, and respond to attacks on both IT and OT (Operational Technology) environments.
• Data analytics: Cisco IoT System provides an optimized infrastructure to implement data analytics capabilities and obtain relevant information, both for the Cisco Connected Analytics portfolio and for third-party software.
• Management and automation: Cisco IoT System provides optimized security, control, and support for multiple functions in silos, facilitating an easy-to-use management system for the growing number of endpoints and applications.
• Application facilitator platform: It offers a full range of APIs for different sectors, partners, and providers, helping them to design and deploy their own applications capable of leveraging the functionalities of Cisco IoT System.
New solutions Network connectivity:
IE5000: Industrial switch to provide connectivity to industrial environments and cities.
IW3702: Wireless Access Point for connected transport systems and WiFi for cities.
IR 809 and IR 829 range: seven new industrial routers with WiFi and 4G/LTE connectivity, ideal for transport or IoT application deployments.
4G/LTE module for CGR 1000 for utilities, Mobile IP Gateway (MIG-2450) for connected transport solutions and 5921 range Embedded Services Routers that extend the reach of industrial networks to remote environments.
Physical security and cybersecurity
360° 5 MP and 720p IP Cameras: High-quality cameras for versatile environments capable of hosting third-party applications, with features including full 360° visibility and audio and digital sensors.
Physical security analytics: Camera applications including audio detection, sensor aggregation, audio alert generators, metadata generation, local video viewer, and video recap.
Data analytics
Fog Computing data services: These services allow technicians to create policies that monitor data flow through the IoT environment (data in motion) and take action. The services reside on the IOx platform, enabling users to integrate custom policies with their applications.
Management and automation
IoT Field Network Director (field network manager): management software that allows technicians to monitor and customize the IoT network infrastructure on an industrial scale.
Fog Director: Facilitates centralized management of multiple applications running at the network edge. This management platform gives administrators control over application configuration and lifecycle, providing easier access and greater visibility into large-scale IoT deployments.
