IDP is a global, multi-sector technical services company, founded in 1998, working in the fields of engineering, environment, architecture, and information and communication technologies. Currently, IDP's headquarters are located in Sabadell (Barcelona), with offices in Madrid, Florianópolis, Rio de Janeiro, and Belém in Brazil; Lima in Peru; Santiago in Chile; and Quito in Ecuador.
In early 2015, IDP undertook a major office renovation, which also required upgrading its cabling infrastructure to support 1 Gbps technology and ensure the company could benefit from future technologies. They also wanted to take the opportunity to install new racks for their servers, switches, and cabling to ensure greater efficiency and ease of maintenance in the future.
Seeking a partner
, IDP chose to collaborate with Concom, SA, having previously worked with them on several installation projects. Concom, SA is a multinational company founded in 1996 and headquartered in Spain. It boasts extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure installations, business services, operation, and maintenance, both nationally and internationally. With offices in Mexico City, Tokyo, Bogotá, Italy, the Netherlands, Nairobi, and Dubai,
Concom is not a typical or traditional company. It dedicates time to understanding its clients' needs and adapting to them. It finds its inspiration in new challenges. Concom is adept at managing truly complex, large-scale projects of diverse nature, always seeking the best option for its clients and offering high quality and
personalized service at all times. Concom recommended Excel as the best solution for IDP, as it met all of its technical requirements.
As an accredited Excel installation partner, Concom can offer a 25-year warranty for the Excel system, covering copper, fiber, voice, and even Environ racks when installed as part of a complete solution.
The solution:
An Excel Category 6A U/UTP system was chosen for the horizontal cabling because it is designed in accordance with current ISO, EN, and TIA standards for Class EA/Category 6A and is suitable for 10GBASE-T and 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications, ensuring a fully obsolescent system. Independent component verification by the renowned Delta laboratory provided IDP with further assurance that the Excel solution offered ample reliability.
The Category 6A U/UTP cable design features a reduced diameter and offers maximum performance, contributing to the goal of creating a solution that is easy to handle and maintain.

Unshielded Excel Category 6A connectors were used, which were supplied in Excel modular patch panels for 24-port Keystone connectors. The Excel modular patch panels for Keystone connectors offer great flexibility, as they can be partially loaded with only the required modules and completed at a later date if needed. Standard features include cage nuts, a ground wire, and a rear cable management tray, ensuring a clean and tidy installation with minimal stress on cable terminations.
The modular design facilitated installation while the company continued its operations, allowing for cable routing to be performed on the new cable run outside the racks and then installed in the panels at convenient times for both the user and the installer.
rack-environ-w Two Excel Environ racks were selected to house the entire system. The first was the Environ CR 800 mm x 800 mm rack, which comes standard with a glass front door and a steel rear door. With the 800 mm width option, the rack included a high-density vertical cable organizer, concealing cabling on either side of the rack. Thanks to the large base recess and a ventilated top with several brush strips at both the top and bottom, routing cabling from the top to the bottom of the rack was straightforward.
The second rack was the Environ SR 800 mm x 1000 mm server rack, which offered even more features, including a micro-perforated front door with a
wavy design for improved ventilation and a double micro-perforated rear door to provide approximately 70% maximum ventilation. Access was easy thanks to the removable side panels, and its 1,300 kg load capacity was more than sufficient to accommodate all the servers and switches.
The key design principles of these racks are accessibility and ease of handling the equipment and cables installed within them. Customers want easy access to their equipment and the ability to perform future maintenance, which is achieved with the high-density vertical cable organizer. This allows for the neat routing of large quantities of cables outside the 19” profile mounting space, maximizing access to and visibility of the servers and switches.
The
biggest challenge for Concom during the installation was completing all the tasks while the IDP team continued working in the office. However, this difficulty was easily overcome with careful planning and constant communication.
The IDP team is very pleased with their Excel installation, as they can now fully benefit from the new generation of computers at their disposal and feel confident knowing that, as technology evolves, their Excel network will support their needs for years to come.
