iPDUs have several advantages over their less intelligent counterparts, particularly when it comes to efficiently managing and monitoring energy via the web. These include:

ADVANCED MEASUREMENT

Most iPDUs incorporate an intelligent module with an alphanumeric display, which locally reports the voltage, current, frequency and electrical power consumed, parameters that allow understanding and generating trends on energy use in an efficient way.

NETWORK INTERFACE CARDS/CONTROLLERS

NICs allow connection to and access to iPDUs through a network that enables remote control and other critical functions for data center management.

REMOTE MANAGEMENT

When enabled by NIC cards, some iPDUs allow you to perform power actions such as turning devices on or off from anywhere, at any time. This saves time and money for data centers and other facilities where a technician isn't always on-site to reboot servers. It's also useful when recovering from a disaster and needing to keep business-critical operations running while cutting power to non-essential systems.

ENVIRONMENTAL SENSORS

The iPDUs have inputs for relative humidity and temperature sensors, which will also trigger alarms when the configured parameters are exceeded. Other accessories, connected to the PDU's RS485 serial port, allow for additional monitoring of the facilities using smoke, flood, door opening, and other sensors.

SNMP NOTIFICATIONS

Many iPDUs allow you to set maximum and minimum voltage and current thresholds that, if exceeded, generate SNMP alerts via email.

SECURITY MANAGEMENT

Newer iPDUs may include contact latches and electrical contact door locks for rack cabinets. Many also offer secure access and authorization to devices using encryption protocols and passwords. The wide range of features available with iPDUs justifies their cost, as their capabilities make them invaluable tools for administrators of data centers and other remotely unattended facilities.

OPENETICS has a wide variety of iPDUs, which are manufactured in Spain in any configuration, with Schuko, C13 or C19 bases, and their combinations, in 19” or 0U formats.
