Unlike other KVM-over-IP switches that only support analog VGA video, the Dominion KX II supports both analog (VGA) and digital (DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort) video through a single KVM-over-IP switch. Supporting multiple video interfaces is becoming increasingly important as the industry moves away from VGA toward newer digital video interfaces. Major manufacturers, such as Intel, AMD, Dell, Lenovo, and Apple, are expected to begin phasing out support for VGA and DVI-I, replacing them with newer technologies like DisplayPort and HDMI.
Along with the introduction of the Dominion KX II Version 2.5, Raritan introduced new CIMs (Computer Interface Modules) – which connect the display, keyboard, and mouse ports of servers to a Dominion KX II switch – supported by DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort video technologies. Raritan's Dominion KX II solution eliminates the need for the expensive and sometimes unreliable digital-to-analog adapters required in KVM switches. Furthermore, Raritan's solution eliminates the cabling and power costs associated with these adapters.
The new CIMs can be used with existing Raritan Dominion KX II and CommandCenter® Secure Gateway models. All that is required is a firmware update.
Dominion KX II version 2.5 also provides support for servers with dual video cards. This is important for applications that require extended remote desktop access across two monitors.
Dominion KX II version 2.5 and the three new digital video CIMSs—D2CIM-DVUSB-DVI, D2CIM-DVUSB-HDMI, and D2CIM-DVUSB-DP—are now available worldwide.
