Remote power supply, that is, the remote transmission of energy to electronic circuits and devices via fiber optics, provides solutions to a wide range of problems. Its main application is in supplying power to sensors and actuators (and their associated electronics) in so-called "exclusion zones." An exclusion zone is one in which the conventional use of electrical energy is not possible due to a hostile environment, such as an explosive atmosphere, an intense electromagnetic environment, or the unavailability of electrical power at the location where it is needed.

Radar miniaturization is one of the key trends identified by IDTechEx in "Automotive Radar 2022-2042." Several factors contribute to this, such as the shift from 24 GHz to 77 GHz, which reduces antenna size. Another is the transition from SiGe-BiCMOS to Si-CMOS transceivers, which reduces the number of discrete computational components and shrinks the circuit board. IDTechEx is exploring just how small this miniaturization can become.
