The optical cableThe 56 Gbps QSFP+ Active Optical Cable (AOC) requires less than 1 W per cable and offers the flexibility of traditional optical modules by interfacing with systems via a standard MSA (Multiple Source Agreement) QSFP (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable) connector.

With four bidirectional optical data links at each end, each operating at a data rate from 1.0 Gbps to 14.0 Gbps, Molex FDR active optical cables support multiple protocols, including InfiniBand FDR, 10 Gb Ethernet, SAS 2.0 and 3.0 (6 Gbps and 12 Gbps), and Fibre Channel (8 Gbps and 10 Gbps). The low bit error rate (BER) of 10e-18 provides greater data reliability and a robust link compared to standard transceivers with a BER of 10e-15 per link. The cables are also available in a low-loss pigtail version, allowing customers to install the single-mode fiber optic cable separately and connect the pigtail cable, eliminating the need for constant and costly upgrades each time bandwidth is increased.

Molex 56 Gbps AOC cables are available in lengths up to 4 km for optimal design flexibility. Single-mode fiber technology provides longer reach compared to multimode and copper fiber optic solutions in data centers and university environments. The firmware can be downloaded in the field via an I2C bus and reinstalled using cables on the host system.
