High signal integrity (SI) and low power consumption optical cables (AOC)

Leoni will be showcasing its high-speed data center connections at DesignCon in the USA later this month. Along with a wide range of DAC products, Leoni will be displaying its own AOCs for the first time. The latest generation of Twinax ParaLink "50s" copper cables will be demonstrated in a measurement demonstration.

Leoni will showcase DACs capable of transmitting up to 400 Gbit/s and AOCs capable of up to 100 Gbit/s, as well as their own loopback test adapters and their latest "50s" series ParaLink copper cables. These high-performance cables transmit up to 112 Gbit/s over a single copper data pair.

All Leoni arrays have excellent SI. For example, Leoni's AOC QSFP28s transmit 100 Gbit/s over 100 m, while typically consuming less than 2 W per end.

With OEM-rated back jackets, these lightweight, slim cables reliably transmit 25 and 100 Gbit/s in high-speed applications. Leoni's most advanced DACs for QSFP-DD and OSFP interfaces transmit up to 400 Gbit/s over 3 m and are available in several tip versions: QSFP-DD/OSFP to 2QSFP-DD/OSFP, QSFP-DD/OSFP to 4QSFP, and QSFP-DD/OSFP to 8SFP. Any data center can easily switch between technologies while maintaining continuous operation. All assemblies are hot-swappable. MPO/MTP and LC fiber optic patch cables from Leoni's extensive data center connectivity range can also be used with additional transceiver modules for low-loss data transfer.

The SI of Leoni's connections is measured using a vector network analyzer (VNA), an OTDR, and range and spectrum analysis (including BERT) up to 67 GHz. Leoni has automated testing systems and its own test adapters. Testing is also performed in a climate chamber up to +80°C (176°F) to measure mechanical stress. The SI is accurately mapped by recording insertion and return loss, conversion parameters, crosstalk analysis, and impedance and bias measurements. The findings from these analyses are incorporated into the design of the transmission channel and its components. In this way, Leoni harmonizes its entire transmission channel of cables, PCBs, and connectors.
