Multimode cables, composed of two optical conductors, allow for distances of up to four kilometers. Single-mode cables, on the other hand, consist of four conductors, enabling two device connections. They allow for distances of up to 26 kilometers. The new system also includes special duplex connectors for the simultaneous use of multimode and
single-mode cables.
LC connectors are notable for their compact size and are widely used for pluggable optical connections. Like many other components in the Scalance line, the X308-2M, XR-300, and X-300EEC Industrial Ethernet switches support the LC format. Cables in the Simatic Net range are distinguished by their robust 900-micron conductors, making them suitable for industrial applications.
