The Anybus-S embedded communications module for Profinet combines a Profinet interface with IRT functions compliant with the Class C standard. This intelligent communication module is based on Siemens' ERTEC-200 technology and includes all the necessary analog and digital components for efficient Profinet IO interfacing with IRT functions, including an integrated 2-port real-time switch. Connection to the physical network is achieved via two SC-RJ fiber optic connectors.
This module is specifically targeted at the automotive industry. Many car manufacturers are already using fiber optic technology in their existing Interbus installations and are now adopting Profinet with fiber optic transmission. The introduction of Profinet is considered a natural evolution from Interbus and will take place gradually over the next five years.
The powerful integrated Siemens ERTEC-200 processor handles the entire Profinet protocol autonomously, thus freeing the main processor of the field device from protocol processing. The module's dual-port, RAM-based hardware and software interface is standardized and functions identically to all other Anybus-S modules. This compatibility is made possible by the 16-pin RJ11 connector, which ensures connection with all other Anybus-S fieldbus and Ethernet modules without requiring any changes to the device interface.
PROFINET-IO offers real-time communication with high data processing capacity and also enables the use of industrial IT functions. Fiber optic transmission guarantees maximum immunity to electromagnetic interference and advanced transmission quality monitoring.
