The LC fiber optic connector is suitable for single-mode OS1/2 and multimode fibers in categories OM2, OM3, and OM4. It can be used to assemble fibers from 0.6 to 0.9 mm in diameter and even up to 250 microns. The system uses a crimping-free tension support, specially developed for cables up to 3.0 mm in diameter. Termination is performed in a very short time. The LC connector is available in both PC and Angle Physical Polish (APC) finishes. This type of polish ensures the best possible light transmission at the interconnect. As a C/1 grade connector, the LC connector has particularly favorable attenuation characteristics. The insertion loss (IL) is typically 0.25dB, and the return loss (RL) is around 60dB at the interconnect.
Installation requires no additional training and virtually no tools for the installation engineer. Scissors, wire strippers, and a standard utility knife are all that's needed. Simply cut the fiber at the required point and place it in the fiber guide. The fiber is then secured by pressing a button, and the cable by removing a clip and assembling the components. A standard light source is used to verify proper fiber contact. If the light shines through the semi-transparent side of the housing window, the connection is correct. The LC connector can be reconnected up to five times while maintaining its performance.
