The LFS-4000 utilizes Vytran fusion filament technology to produce low-loss splices for fibers ranging from 125 to 900 microns in diameter. It can be used for standard and specialty fibers, such as doped fibers, polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers, photonic crystal fibers (PCF), high-stress fibers, and non-circular fibers. Its portable PC software features two screens: one for product development that enables all unit functionalities, and a simplified screen that provides only the operator interface for volume manufacturing.

The Vytran LFS-4000, GPX-3400 glass processor, LDC-400 fiber cleaver, and PTR-200 series of instruments comprise a complementary product suite. These products streamline the development-through-manufacturing process for applications such as fiber splice assemblies and the creation of fused components and fiber optic terminations. The LFS-4000, GPX-3400, and LDC-400 share a fiber support block to ensure the mechanical integrity of the fiber. The LFS and GPX systems also share common software and an application library to expedite customer processes from development to production.
