The Spitfire units join Protokraft's existing Lightning and Magnum series of optoelectronic interfaces to provide a complete optical component solution for military and commercial aviation networks.
The Spitfire series comprises converters available in Single, Dual, and Quad versions, designed for military, aerospace, and industrial applications with high levels of shock and vibration and extreme temperature ranges.
Each Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet converter includes optoelectronic transmitter and receiver functions along with Ethernet media conversion circuitry in a wall-mountable MIL-DTL-38999 connector assembly. The optical transmitters are high-output 850 nm VSCEL lasers, while the receivers integrate GaAs or InGaAs PINs and preamplifier and post-amplifier limiting assemblies.
The electrical interface of the Spitfire converters is a MIL-DTL-83513 Micro D-pin connector, allowing for interconnection to a customer's flexible circuit or cable assembly.

These Ethernet media converters enable high-speed network communications over long distances in harsh environments such as Ethernet switches and peripherals, rack-to-rack links of switches/routers in telecommunications and data communications, and storage or computing clusters.

The Series III shell features a sealed optical interface that is hermetically sealed to the Mil-Std-810 standard. Additionally, the multimode fiber optic interface supports applications where copper conductors cannot be used.
This new solution is ideal for use in aviation networks and control and display systems where small size, reduced weight, and exceptional durability are required. The Spitfire series offers support for a wide range of network interfaces, including Fast and Gigabit Ethernet. All versions are compliant with the requirements of ARINC 664 and IEEE-802.3:2005 specifications.
