ZTE's PON COMBO solution meets the current bandwidth demands of fixed networks, maximizing space, minimizing network changes, and maintaining original operation and maintenance standards (O&M). It enables customers to achieve a seamless migration from XG-PON1 to GPON, eliminating several issues associated with upgrading from XG-PON1. By maintaining the same PON port density, operators can save up to 60% more space than with an external solution and up to 24% on equipment costs.

With the rapid development of broadband services, many operators have opted to upgrade their GPON systems to XG-PON1 to cope with intense bandwidth pressure. Upgrading from GPON to XG-PON1 uses an external wavelength division multiplexing (WDM1r) filter to combine XG-PON1 and GPON optical signals for operational distribution networks (ODNs). Such solutions require a new XG-PON1 OLT chassis, XG-PON1 line cards, cabinet, external co-wave devices, and computer room facilities. This results in high construction costs, requires excessive land space, and creates difficulties for the operation and maintenance of the fiber optic cabling.

ZTE's COMBO PON solution coexists with GPON and XG-PON1 as dual-channel devices within the same optical module, reusing the existing GPON OLT chassis and replacing the original board with a new COMBO PON board. The COMBO PON port connects to the corresponding original GPON fiber network to enable the combination of GPON and 10G PON, reusing the existing ODN network.

ZTE is committed to product and solution innovation in this area to create value for the customer. The COMBO PON product provides a solution to the high costs of network deployment and the complex challenges of XG-PON migration.

Recently, the OVUM organization published its third report on the global fixed-line product market share for the third quarter of 2015, "Market Share Report: 3Q15 FTTx, DSL, and CMTS." The report shows that ZTE holds the second-largest market share in the global fixed access and PON markets. ZTE ranks first for EPON shipments. For sales and shipment volumes of GPON optical network terminal units (ONTs/ONUs) in South and Central America, ZTE holds the top spot.
