Retegal is playing a key role in the Regional Government's Broadband Plan, with a budget of €32 million to extend broadband access to more than 786,000 residents of the Autonomous Community who previously lacked coverage.
Retegal is thus acting as a neutral operator, providing services to private operators and making its infrastructure available to them on equal terms.
Increased access to broadband will play a key role in bridging the digital divide and bringing new services to the region. The Galician Regional Government's total investment in the projects launched so far exceeds €81 million, leveraging a budget of over €221 million in public and private capital.
With an Infinera ATN network for its optical transport infrastructure, Retegal benefits from a flexible and scalable WDM transport solution designed to offer a wide range of services, including Ethernet, SAN, SONET/SDH, OTN, and video services. Retegal was a major customer of ATN R2.0, which offers several new capabilities, including multi-service aggregation for 10Gb/s wavelengths and fully automated optical power management. This year, Retegal plans to expand the network to a total reach of over 1,800 kilometers.
“The technical solution presented by Infinera allows our network to adapt to our customers’ demands, configuring a robust architecture to support the performance required by next-generation services,” says José Ángel Abeal, Managing Director of Retegal.
“The design, engineering, and support work carried out by the Telindus and Infinera team has been fundamental for us, enabling the migration to this new network to be completed with virtually no impact on our services.”
Telindus, a leading technology integrator in Spain, has deployed Retegal’s network and is providing top-tier monitoring and maintenance. “Infinera’s next-generation fiber optic transport networks are becoming the preferred choice for telecom operators looking to optimize their infrastructure management and deliver value-added services to their customers. It is very important to us that Retegal has entrusted us with the deployment of such advanced technology, as it helps position us as a leading provider of cutting-edge technological solutions,” said Emilio Cabañas, CEO of Telindus.
“We are pleased to offer Retegal an Infinera network that will provide the scalability, flexibility, and ease of use to support the expansion of broadband services throughout the Galicia region,” said Infinera President and CEO Tom Fallon.
