This acquisition reinforces ABB’s commitment to safeguarding operational resilience in the world’s most critical industries. Partial discharges (small electrical sparks that indicate the early stages of an equipment insulation failure) are the leading cause of failures, responsible for more than 80% of asset breakdowns before an unexpected outage. IPEC specializes in partial discharge detection, enabling companies to identify problems before they become costly downtime. The result is a more robust and reliable infrastructure, capable of withstanding today’s energy and operational pressures.

This expansion of ABB’s electrification services portfolio will help support customers in transitioning from reactive to proactive asset management, which can reduce downtime by up to 90%, cut maintenance costs by up to 85%, and extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure for decades.
Stuart Thompson, Division President of ABB Electrification Services, said: “In critical industries, the cost of downtime is staggering, from multi-million-dollar revenue losses in data centers to the safety and reliability risks faced by utilities and hospitals. This acquisition provides our customers with the diagnostic intelligence they need to prevent failures before they happen. By turning complex monitoring data into clear, actionable insights, we enable companies to move from reactive repairs to predictive maintenance, so they can focus on performance while their critical infrastructure operates more efficiently, cleanly, and intelligently.”
