To support this deployment, which includes the data center and power capacity, NVIDIA intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as the new NVIDIA systems are deployed. The first phase is scheduled to go live in the second half of 2026 using the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform.
“NVIDIA and OpenAI have powered each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the groundbreaking ChatGPT breakthrough,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “This infrastructure investment and partnership marks the next leap forward: deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”
“It all starts with computing,” said Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. “Computing infrastructure will be the foundation of the future economy, and we’ll use what we’re building with NVIDIA to create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”
“We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA since the very beginning of OpenAI,” says Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI. “We’ve used their platform to build AI systems that are used by hundreds of millions of people every day. We’re thrilled to deploy 10 gigawatts of computing power with NVIDIA to push the boundaries of intelligence and make this technology available to everyone.”
OpenAI will work with NVIDIA as its preferred strategic partner for computing and networking to support its AI factory growth plans. OpenAI and NVIDIA will collaborate to jointly optimize their roadmaps for OpenAI's modeling software and infrastructure, and NVIDIA's hardware and software.
This partnership complements the extensive work that OpenAI and NVIDIA are already doing with a broad network of collaborators, including Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners, focused on building the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure.
OpenAI has grown to more than 700 million weekly active users and strong adoption by global enterprises, small businesses, and developers. This partnership will help OpenAI advance its mission to create AI general that benefits all of humanity.
NVIDIA and OpenAI expect to finalize the details of this new phase of strategic partnership in the coming weeks.
