This fifth edition analyzes application sectors and key use cases to provide a comprehensive overview of IoT's presence in Spain. Agriculture and livestock farming lead the sector by a wide margin, accounting for 44.80% of devices. They are followed by energy efficiency (17.11%), environmental hygiene (16.05%), security (8.58%), and logistics (8.30%).
The weight of the primary sector challenges the traditional perception that the countryside is slowly moving towards modernization: quite the contrary, the agricultural sector is actively adopting innovative technologies to improve its efficiency, productivity and sustainability.
By project type, the most widespread use case is livestock monitoring, representing 34.42% of the devices. This is followed by air quality monitoring (18.67%), water consumption monitoring (11.72%), monitoring of the elderly (7.22%), and crop monitoring (7.14%). In this respect, the growth of IoT applications in environmental health and human well-being is noteworthy.
The results paint a dynamic and constantly evolving picture, in which more and more regions are closing the gap with the leading regions. The most significant change in this edition is the shift at the top: Catalonia has become the region with the highest number of connected devices, with 16.57% of the total, overtaking the Community of Madrid, which has 15.55%.
Andalusia once again consolidates its third position with 13.10%, and these top three regions account for 45.2% of the devices. Behind the top three is a highly competitive middle ground: Castile and León (7.92%) and the Basque Country (7.84%) are practically tied at around 8%, followed by the Valencian Community (5.93%) and the Balearic Islands (5.85%).
These figures reveal significant growth in Castile and León, which accounted for 3.39% of devices in the previous edition, and in the Basque Country, which had 5.32%. As a result, the territorial gap between the most advanced regions is narrowing.

The analysis, whose data corresponds to the year 2025, is based on 5,446,308 devices connected to the UnaBiz network, present in 80% of the national territory
