The new $24 million network will connect schools, hospitals, government offices, community centers, and public call centers across all 32 Mexican states. Hughes was awarded the contract to deploy the network within five months, beginning now. The company won the contract through a competitive bidding process that included major Mexican and international providers of satellite broadband equipment. The network will be operated by Telecomunicaciones de México (Telecomm Telégrafos), a decentralized government agency responsible for telecommunications in Mexico with extensive experience in satellite operations.

Hughes will supply all network components, from its advanced HN System Network Operations Center and 11,000 broadband terminals to fiber optic/Internet interconnection equipment, data compression/optimization technology, IP phones, and wireless access systems to serve remote locations. Nearly 1,100 solar power systems will be supplied to support equipment disconnected from the power grid.
